I don’t know if we were all in semi-denial when the sky went orange. After all we knew what it was and that it would pass. Quickly. Is that grounds for ignoring what was happening?

    This was both alarming and hysterical. We had very similar situations here in the DMV although our haze was about 70% of what you experienced in NYC. You questioned whether because we knew what it was and that it would pass, did that prevent or dampen a reaction? I think you may be on to something. It in no way excuses the lack of communication, guidance, compassion for those who could not avoid it. Climate change and the ever increasing wildfire situation may make this not such a one-time phenomenon. Hopefully our leadership will get it right the second, third or fourth time around.

    Who needs good air quality anyway? It was quite eerie seeing the sepia tone across everything in the air, reminding me of a nuclear-waste video game…
