August is right around the bend, and it is one of my favorite times of year. There is something about the light that has softened. It has changed from the baking hot heat light of July into a mellowed tone. August light has been around the block. It knows a thing or two.
Good one, Tulis!
In my mind, that August light you speak of always prompts thoughts of sprawling vines hanging heavy with thick, sweet (and very seedy) blackberries, both the wild ones and the farm-grown ones we’d pick at my grandfather’s place, earning money for September school clothes. (Most kids, of course, would stick fingers in their ears if anyone said the word “school.”)
Thanks so much. Where was your grandfather’s place?
Near Dundee, Oregon.
What a lovely 4 minutes on a beautiful, thoughtful afternoon on July 31. Oh for the old farm up the dirt road, a million miles from everything….Oh…Wait a minute… I am a member of one in Margaretville, NY woods… no electric…no wifi… just 105 natural acres surrounded by Catskill preserve… If you ever want to visit, let me know.
Would love to visit or better yet be a member
Would love to!
Beautiful one today. Thank you.
Thanks for letting me know.
You are most welcome. Glad you liked it.
August was always our beach month as well. We couldn’t wait to pack the car, drive three hours, park the car, and not get in it again for 7 whole days! Sunrise walks, seashells, books, and ice cream were in plentiful supply and enjoyed with abandoned. Getting back to that as a new parent and continuing the tradition has been a joy!
Sounds delish. Thanks for posting.
You made me feel like I was right there with you. That’s wonderful. I so agree, August needs to be enjoyed differently than any other month–days don’t just go by, they slide by leaving us better for having been there. Merci
That is a beautiful way of putting it! They do slide by.
