My Father Was An April Fool ~ Monday April 3, 2023
My Father was born on April Fools Day. Our relationship was rocky. Dad wanted things his way because he was the father. I know this because he told me. I wanted things my way because I was the daughter. He knew that because I told him. We drew our lines in the sand, and we waited for the other to blink. For me it was very simple. My father was usually wrong, and I was right.
Lovely. I see your great grandfather’s droll sense of humor has passed on through the generations to you. That photo of a younger Gracie brings to mind the older Gracie I knew. Thanks for the memory.
So glad to share those memories with you. See thee in 23?
Better than any earthly treasure, this letter that has passed down into your hands, Tulis!
Letters like this are sadly absent these days.
In this current era of tweets and insta-this&that, we may not see its like again.
Lovely, Tulis,
What a delightful use of language those Scottish immigrants!
Brought back so many memories of Gramma Gracie, including the ginger cookies that Ruth still makes and hands out at Christmas parties.
Wonderful that you keep these family characters alive by sharing their words and stories.
Love,
Paul Peter
Aren’t we lucky to have shared knowing her.
Wow, what a letter! Lovely to hear your voice reading it, but would have enjoyed hearing your Scottish burr too (was she pearly or poorly?!?).
Oh you will have to teach me!
Pearly definitely pearly.
